What changed
  • "Licence" replaces the old wording for the recurring charge, across CFIN
  • "Licence fee" replaces the old wording for the fee itself
  • Wording only — what you're charged, and when, hasn't changed

Across the dashboard, billing pages and our communications, CFIN has moved to "licence" and "licence fee", replacing older wording that no longer matched how the product actually works. The first charge on a new account is now called the one-time activation fee. It buys no month of service.

Why we moved to this wording

CFIN works on a licence model rather than a recurring charge in the conventional sense, so the old word for it — "subscription" — no longer fit.

The fee itself was previously called a "performance fee", which was easy to misread as tied directly to trading results, when it isn't. One consistent set of words, used the same way everywhere, removes that ambiguity.

What you need to do

Nothing changes about what you're charged or when — this is a wording clarification only, applied consistently across the whole product, including the documents our own team uses internally.

In detail

Why we also fixed our own internal wording

Updating our own internal documents to use the same words as our customer-facing pages, rather than just the words customers see, was a deliberate part of this clean-up — it's easy for a business to use one word internally and a different one externally, and that mismatch eventually leaks through in small ways.

We see consistent terminology as a form of respect for your time. If you spot the old wording anywhere we've missed, Support would be glad to know.
