What changed
The automated trading engine that manages CFIN accounts was originally developed and run under the internal name "Project Green". A newer generation of the same lineage of technology, developed independently and checked carefully side by side against the original before anything changed for a live account, is now named "Project Iris". All customer-facing material going forward refers to it as Project Iris.
Why
As the engine evolved into a genuinely new generation, we wanted a name that reflected that evolution clearly, rather than continuing to use a name tied to an earlier stage of its development. "Project Green" remains the correct name for the earlier generation of the same lineage; it isn't a different, unrelated product.
What you need to do
Nothing — your account, settings and risk controls are unaffected by the name change itself. If you see "Project Iris" in your dashboard or in communications from us, it refers to the same trading engine you've been using, now on its current generation.
In detail
- Project Iris is a newer generation of the same lineage of technology as Project Green, not a separate, unrelated system.
- The newer generation was developed independently and checked carefully side by side against the original before anything changed for a live account.
- Customer-facing material, including your dashboard and this blog, now consistently refers to the engine as Project Iris.
- Any older reference you might come across to "Project Green" refers to the earlier generation of the same technology.
One more thing
Checking the newer engine generation carefully against the original, side by side, before anything changed for a live account, was a deliberate precaution given that real accounts and real trading decisions were involved.
We'll keep using "Project Iris" consistently from here on, and this post, along with the others in this series, exists mainly so the naming history doesn't read as confusing to anyone who comes across an older reference.
